Your Daily Brush: Sitting in Stillness
Make sure you carve out time to let your mind and body rest. Even five minutes of sitting in stillness can give your nervous system a respite from being always on the go.
Dear Friends,
It’s the weekend. However, if you are like many people, chances are you have tasks, errands and housecleaning to get done before returning to work on Monday.
If you are unable to take a full 24 hours off to rest, reflect and let your body pause from the unending demands of life, here is something for your consideration:
Rx: Sit in stillness for a few minutes. Do not judge yourself for being “non-productive.” Better yet, let go of all thoughts, even if it is for just a few minutes.
Simply let yourself be.
If you want to sit in a chair, that’s fine. If you want to lie down as you enter into a state of stillness, that is fine too.
This is your time - to customize and adapt as you wish.
Allow your breath to find its natural rhythm.
Allow your ears to passively listen to whatever sounds reach your ear drums with no effort or strain on your part.
Allow your eyes to close so you can turn inward. Alternatively, you can allow your eyes to wander and explore your surroundings.
Tune into your body and sense into what it might be signaling you.
Is it asking for a longer period of stillness? Or is it letting you know that a short period of stillness is just right?
The regular practice of mental hygiene does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it is as easy as sitting in stillness for a few minutes, once a day or at the least, once a week.
To your health!
