Your Daily Brush: Pause Every Day to Experience Everyday Delights
In a non-stop world, it is crucial to pause regularly, take deep breaths and look around. This allows you to connect with sources of delight. The world awaits your discovery in ways big and small.
Dear Friends,
Let’s talk about feeling good.
By that, I mean of course in a healthy kind of way! The kind of feeling good that costs you no money and is sugar free. The kind of feeling good that makes you appreciate life.
I invite you to look around.
What catches your eye?
What can you see that makes you want to stop in your tracks and appreciate something in detail?
Even if you don’t have a garden where you have the luxury of stopping and smelling the proverbial roses, what else might you find that is interesting and even uplifting? In other words, what unexpected delight awaits your discovery?
A few weeks earlier, I had been walking by a meadow in Switzerland and spotted small daises in the grass. That was delightful especially because…well…just because it’s always delightful to discover small flowers in nature. But back in San Francisco, I happened to spot the same kind of miniature daisies growing out of a concrete sidewalk!
In fact I was so taken by these sidewalk daisies, I just had to photograph and share them with you. (Image below)
I am certain that no matter where you are, something beautiful or inspiring awaits your discovery. And that means that something delightful is just around the corner awaiting you!
Rx: Scan your surroundings and see what enters into your awareness and uplifts your psyche, even if for just a few moments. Allow yourself to sit with that feeling of delight. And as you do so, allow yourself to fully enter into the present moment.
What might be something that you have walked by a hundred times but never noticed until now? (No, I am not talking about dust, mold or water spots…) I am referring to the way the sun streams through a window, or the delight of bird song as dawn breaks, or even the joy of your first sips of coffee or tea in the morning.
What source of simple delight might you discover in your everyday life if you allowed yourself to slow down?
Slowing down to notice everyday beauty is one sure way to nurture your psyche and soul. And this my friends constitutes an act of practicing mental hygiene proactively.
Remember, the list of people, moments and sights that can delight you is potentially infinite, as is your capacity to experience the resulting emotion of delight.
To your health!
