Your Daily Brush: Immerse Yourself in the Soothing Sounds of the Hang Drum
If you want to relax, meditate or are looking for soothing background music as you tackle a stressful task, the melodic tones of the hang drum are sure to offer you something to help you access calm.
Dear Friends,
When you hear the phrase “Swiss inventions” what comes to mind?
Swiss Army knives? Velcro? Powdered milk? Instant coffee? And then there is also LSD. (Trivia tangent: My German teacher’s father, who was a colleague of Albert Hoffman who invented the psychedelic drug, was among the very first in the world to try this!)
Yes indeed, those are all Swiss inventions. Additionally, did you know that the Hang Drum was also invented in Switzerland?
Invented in 2000 by Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer in Bern, Switzerland, it has gained popularity as a musical instrument for meditation and relaxation practices, especially because of its soft melodic tones.
Here is an hour-long video by a German musician, Malte Martin, that I would like to share with you for use in your mental hygiene practice.
Rx: You can listen to this music as you practice deep breathing; for maximum relaxation, remember to exhale longer than you inhale. You can also play it in the background as you tackle tasks such as decluttering or chopping vegetables as you prepare a meal. These are just a few suggestions and you can get creative about how you incorporate the music into your mental hygiene practice.
To your health!
