Your Daily Brush: Enter Your Uplift into Your Calendar
To increase your chances of going from knowing to doing - make an appointment with yourself.
Yesterday I shared with you an uplifting piece of music to start your day with.
If you are like many people, chances are you have places to go, people to meet and deadlines to make. The morning alarm goes off waking us out of our sleep and off we go like horses running out of the gates at a race, (or the rat race for some people.)
Many times, the morning run out the gate can feel like being on autopilot. Alarm rings, make coffee, shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth, and off we go…into a full day, yet again…and again… and again.
But these are exactly the moments, when we are rushing toward deadlines on a kind of autopilot that we need to pause and insert some joy and quality of life into our day.
Quality of life and moments of joy are not something to insert at the end of the day when you are exhausted after a long day of work and caring for others.
It is the stuff that recharges your emotional battery and keeps you going throughout the day.
You already know that it is not realistic to run lots of apps on your phone and expect the battery to last from early in the morning to late at night. In that respect, you are like your phone and need periodic recharging throughout the day.
Back to the alarm clock and how it sets off a domino-chain-of-events reaction. For your body and your psyche, the daily routine of just getting out the door on time, or getting your kids out the door in time for school is already a drain on your battery right from the start of the day.
Finding a way to creatively infuse your morning with a bit of uplifting music is like topping off your phone battery because the daily grind has already started to drain your emotional battery.
To increase your chances of having as full a battery as possible at the start of your day, I invite you to write down uplifting music into your daily schedule. For instance, try entering Morning Dance or any other song you find uplifting into your calendar.
You can even listen to it while you are in the shower if you feel you can’t afford the extra four minutes of time to just sit and listen or dance to it. Or you can play it while drinking your coffee. Or when brushing your teeth. Get creative and try out different variations. No matter how you combine or integrate the music into your morning routine, I encourage you to enter it into your calendar.
I say this not to insult your intelligence but because when people are stressed, it is easy to let certain goals slip by the wayside. This is the road to eroding your quality of life.
To maintain and even bolster your quality of life, try writing down when you will listen to music in your calendar. If you use an electronic calendar in your phone, all you have to do is insert the YouTube link into a time slot. It can be that simple and at the same time it can be that powerful.
Remember, you have a right to joy even in the midst of difficulties and uncertainties. And entering uplifting music into your calendar on a daily basis — and maybe even more than once a day if your day is hectic or stressful — is an easy no-cost way to brush your mind and connect with joy.
To your health!
